I played soccer and did gymnastics as a kid. I've played rugby on and off the past couple years. I'm not playing right now and I miss it desperately. I love going out to watch soccer and rugby games. I've also become something of a Patriots fan in recent years.

I have a puppy dog named Dante. He is awesomest dog ever.

I speak some Spanish, some Portuguese, and some Italian. I find languages incredibly interesting and would love to learn more.

I think traveling is pretty much the most amazing thing in the world. I've spent time in Italy, Spain, England, and most countries in Latin America. There are so many more places I want to visit. Sometimes I find it a little depressing that I'll probably never make it to most of them.

I thrive on the chaos of big cities. Mexico City, Bogota, Buenos Aires are some of my favorite places in the world. But I also have a deep need and appreciation for the outdoors. I love hiking, rock climbing, swimming in the ocean and being able to see the stars at night. Finding the balance is very difficult.

I really like music.

My idea of fun is finding something ridiculous and unique to do. Something UNconventional unlike going to a dance-club, a bar, a party centered entirely on the consumption of alcohol and listening to rap, with the obligatory beer-pong. One of the funnest things I've done recently was slip-n-sliding down a 50 foot plastic tarp covered in KY jelly and paint.

I don't get out very much because I do not find enjoyment in the standard things that people go out for. Fun starts with an idea and I can feel it in my cheeks when something is worth my time.

I take pride in being educated enough to spell things correctly, and being grammatically correct most of the time.

I don't buy into people's stupid need to have the flashier, more expensive car, house, china set, giant cell phone with a keyboard, or whatever! I think I could live fine with enough money to shelter myself, feed myself, and spend on pursuing fun.

Who am I? Well, let's see. I'm relatively tall, quiet guy that manages to be neurotic and laid-back at the same time. Moved to the Boston area just over a year ago and haven't looked back since. I guess that I am more of the intellectual type but I was in the Air Force before I went into private industry so that helped with my people skills. I like order, structure, and sticking to a definite plan when I do things. Also, I enjoy running, skiing, mountain biking, and long walks on the beach. :-)

I draw too little, and think too much. I often either have my nose in a book, or eyes glued to a computer (or television screen). I'm really interested in Artificial Life (although Artificial Intelligence is good too).

I study TaeKwonDo (TKD) quite seriously, typically 4-5 times/week. I hope to earn my Black Belt in the next year or so. It is an amazing martial art and I respect the tenets as well as the physical challenges, of which there are MANY! My TKD school is very cool which makes getting tortured fairly regularly much more bearable.

Born and raised in California, I'm now enjoying "seasons" in Boston, where I'm a researcher at MIT. Where I play with cotton candy. I love people and machines; I'll happily spend a night in a basement rewiring something, or just as happily join a hundred people on a dance floor surrounded by firespinners, or listen to friends talk about their lives. I deeply love my work, but also attempt to maintain my personal interests: relaxing, enjoying life, going to experience live music (a range, including big concerts, small events, etc.) great performers are something amazing that you can just close your eyes and connect with. Massachusetts native, global citizen. A good friend and a pleasant acquaintance. I often feel torn between my love for both the city and nature. When I was around five I asked my mother why anyone would live in a city. Obviously I wasn't thinking about the people who could not afford to move out. I just didn't understand the allure. I used to run through the woods, cut through back lawns, and down dirt roads past the cranberry bogs where Iâ??d go fishing or play robin hood. I was outside all the time whether it was in the woods, at the beach, or out on the boat. Now I love the city. I don't know where else I'd live as a musician. It's where everything happens. I still plan my escapes now and then.

First off, I hate these with a passion. Giving a "self-summary" on the spot like this is totally not the best way for one to get to know me or find out really anything about who I am. A few fun facts...I've recently realized that I really enjoy just sitting on my little porch I have at my apartment with a glass of wine and having deep conversations about life and stuff with friends. Can't wait for the spring/summer so I can do that again!

I'm pretty "driven" I guess you could say. I've got some really high aspirations for what I want do with my life (which I'll get to down below!) In the right situation I'm pretty high energy and excitable!

When given the chance I am a very good listener. I'm also a very loyal friend. My friends mean the world to me and I'd pretty much do anything for them. I'm back in Massachusetts after three years in DC, and am having a blast exploring and adventuring.

I'm not very good at accurately describing myself, but I guess I could say that I'm kind of a goofy guy. Sometimes I'm jovial and a whirlwind of manic energy, and other times I'm super laid back. I've also been described by friends as kind and honorable; even if I do occasionally make crass jokes at their expense, they know it's all in jest.

I'm originally from California, and was kind of a beach bum in college. Even though I've been in Boston long enough to acclimate, I miss a lot of things about the West Coast.

My goal is to live a life I can be proud of. I really love acquiring experiences, and knowledge about the world. although i teach my students how to summarize, i find it exceedingly difficult to summarize myself, so instead, i'll tell you a story:

rachel was born in grand rapids, michigan and spent her early years diving into big piles of leaves, splashing around in lake michigan, making snow angels, and playing hide-and-seek in the cornfields behind her house. she moved to the suburbs of detroit the summer before she started second grade and lived there until she graduated from high school. she was valedictorian of her graduating class and voted "most intellectual" and "most likely to win on jeopardy!" in her high school yearbook. in other words, she was (and remains) a total nerd.

upon graduating, rachel moved to indiana to attend saint joseph's college, and her family moved to north carolina, where rachel was lucky enough to spend summers for four years. she fell in love with the appalachian mountains and still thinks this region is one of the most beautiful places she's ever been. rachel graduated with a bachelor's in english/creative writing and a group of friends who continue to be some of the most cherished people in her life.

because she loved school SO much (remember: nerd), rachel immediately moved to boston to attend emerson college and continue to shape her skills as a writer. she earned an mfa in creative writing and enjoyed three years of reading, writing, and thinking. there was also a fair amount of dancing and drinking during this time. rachel had a wonderful time and remained in boston working as an office manager in a dental office and a waitress at a seafood restaurant (her part-time jobs became full-time when she received her not-so-marketable degree).

when rachel's sister decided to move to houston, texas to study acupuncture and oriental medicine, rachel went along. there, she lounged by the pool, drove around in a car with no air conditioning, did some writing, was repeatedly stuck with needles (acupuncture dummy), and bartended. she loved the weather, but not the city--or her job--and, after a few years, decided to move back to boston and become a teacher.

rachel went to boston university and entered a master of arts in teaching program, which she loved (especially the literature classes!) and began teaching at chelsea high school a few months after finishing her program.

rachel enjoys her job (unlike bartending, it's always challenging and often rewarding) and is lucky to have many amazing friends and a big, loving family. she's happy and enjoys her life...only there's something missing. rachel's always been a romantic and foolishly believes in love at first sight. she's had relationships in the past, but she's never found true love. she's not sure that the internet is the place to find it, but she knows she won't find it at work, since the only available guys are 16 years old. and she's pretty sure she won't find it at a bar. so she's willing to give this a shot.

when asked the question, "where do you see yourself in five years?" rachel seldom knows what to say. she still loves writing and would like her career to move in that direction at some point. she loves boston, but is open to moving just to shake herself up and have some new experiences. she's considered charleston, denver, the pacific northwest, california....she rather likes that she doesn't know where she'll be in five years. maybe she'll have a family and a husband she embarrasses because she can't keep her hands off him in public. maybe she'll be touring the country promoting her new novel, maybe she'll be living in a tiny apartment near the beach in hawaii. what's certain is that the possibilities are endless and that doesn't scare her. it excites her. it inspires her. whatever it is, she's ready for it.

I'm a software engineer, musician and visual artist, with divergent interests and radical ideas. I'm iconoclastic, non-conforming, even subversive, and definitely not someone who watches TV or goes to sporting events. I'm a non-breeder--meaning I will never have children--and a life-long vegetarian, and my favorite people share these two choices.

I've created shocking and controversial art, made an outrageous spectacle of myself, and generally taken the road less traveled, but I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of. Speaking of burning, I participated in Burning Man in '07 and '08, and was both inspired and repelled. I'm trying to be more outgoing, and bring new influences into my life. I'm primarily interested in making new friends, and building stable relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and shared experience. I'd like passion and intimacy to develop from friendship and not the other way around. It's always better with someone you like!

I work at a luxury hotel and at a youth hostel; between the two I am constantly groping for free time. With that said, I still manage to have more than my fair share of fun. I both work and play like there's no tomorrow. Whether I'm on one of my frequent outings with my eclectic band of misfits(whom I am extremly loyal to) or behind the desk at one of my jobs, I am a neverending socialite. When I'm not working or out on the town enjoying every night I'm blessed with I am catering to my inner geek. I go through books like water. In fact, books are as essential to my existence as water. I am an English teacher. I feel this gives me the right to make up words with impunity.

I'm also a proud nerd, (pro-)feminist, lover of books of all kinds. I tend to prefer people who are the last two and who, if not actually nerdy, can at least geek out about their favorite topics whenever they come up in conversations. I am interested in all manner of things, from philosophy to linguistics to math to politics to art and literature, as well as less academic pursuits like planning for the zombie apocalypse (or maybe raptors will come first; one can never be sure). Again, you need not share any of these same interests, so long as there's something that fascinates you enough for you to enjoy conversing about it a great deal.

I identify as atheist agnostic, being scientifically minded enough to accept that cannot actually be certain of God's nonexistence. Your religion is not super important, as long as you aren't intolerant of people who believe differently, and you don't try to convert me.

I also tend to be politically liberal, though I value critical thinking far more than toeing one or another party line. I am pretty uncompromising in my beliefs that gay marriage and abortion should both be legal. By "uncompromising" I mean that I will not change these beliefs, and that I don't foresee romantic potential with anyone who disagrees. (It's not as much of a dealbreaker for friendship, as long as you don't actively try to prevent/reverse the legalization of these things. If you are actively anti-choice or anti-gay-marriage, though, I'd consider it somewhat of an affront to me and people I love. I guess I just sometimes get hostile toward people who think my best friend is a murderer and my sister is a freak who shouldn't be allowed to marry who she wants.)

basically, i get really excited about nerdy things like the overlap of science and art, evolutionary biology, the way a bicycle functions, and the best way to alter a piece of clothing.

i have an extensive collection of books, records, craft projects, and lists of recipes to try, art to research, and museums to check out. i'm just all about going to shows and riding around and generally just kicking it.

More than anything else, I love to travel. In the past five years I have lived in Memphis, Tennessee; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Washington, DC; London, UK; a short stint in Dallas, TX; and currently Boston, MA (technically Somerville). If you're wondering, I've ordered them semi-chronologically. I've also worked in and traveled to more places than mentioned above and still have so much more of the world to be seen.

How does someone put 34 years of experience into a small box. But here goes.... I am orginally from the south and have a great southern disposition. I have the work ethic of the northeast, the openness of a European, and the old school values as your grandparents. I am a liberal woman that likes to cook and clean for her man. Am a sexually confident woman without being easy. I like jokes but not when they are on me. I am spontaneously organized. A hopeless romantic without being a stalker.
